An Artistic Statement from Giles
A trusted witness
I see my purpose as a photographer to record all the realities of living in this modern world. From moment to moment the world changes, shifts and moves forward. There is just a split-second to capture real images, saving them for others to enjoy, understand or treasure. As I see it, I am bestowed the privilege of a trusted witness.
Photographing a joyous occasion such as a wedding day is an honour, sharing in the couple's happiness and translating it into a beautiful memory, treasured for decades to come. Undertaking documentary work shows the world in its true and unvarnished state. People's emotions are raw, pain is almost tangible, fear often visible and yet through it all one can glimpse the greatness and determination of the human spirit. Given that privilege of witness - I see it as my role to reveal the images of true humanity, reminding us all of the similarities we share and highlighting the truths of existence.
